Elm discover 6,000 years of history

On Wednesday 23rd October Elm class went on a visit to Avebury Henge, which is recognised as a World Heritage Site. Henges are circular bank and ditches, built for ceremonies about 4 to 5 thousand years ago. There are more than 200 henges in Europe and Avebury is the second largest.

Elm have been learning about the Neolithic period and have been thinking about how people would have lived many thousands of years ago.

Our students explored the whole site and stopped to look at some of the most significant sarsen stones, which are about 35 million years old! They also visited the Alexander Keiller Museum where they learned about the people who built, used and lived alongside the Avebury monuments.
