If you go down to the woods today

Hazel class recently paid a visit to Oxenwood Outdoor Education Centre.

They were greeted at the forest edge by a great explorer. He told Hazel that a Gruffalo had been spotted in the forest and that he had left clues behind.

After following a long trail of ginormous Gruffalo footprints, Hazel found a clearing where they met a mouse, a snake, an owl and a fox!

They told Hazel all about the Gruffalo and the class explored all of their senses within the forest: looking at the sky, touching the bark of the trees, smelling the leaves, tasting hot chocolate and hearing all of the sounds of the forest. They even shook tree branches which caused all sorts of creepy crawlies to fall onto a net below so they could identify them.

On the way back to school Hazel’s minibus got stuck in the mud! But they were rescued by a kind farmer who pulled the minibus out using a big chain which was attached his tractor.

Hazel rounded off a very enjoyable trip back at school, where everyone tucked into a well-deserved lunch.

We would like to thank the fantastic team of kind and caring instructors, who had so much patience and understanding while working with our students. They were really adaptable and engaging, which contributed to making the trip so successful. We would also like to thank the Centre for gifting us this session, as a free trial, as it was our first visit. Everyone had such a great time and can’t wait to go back again soon.
