Oaklands School appears on popular TV show

Chula Bishop

Back in June the popular CBBC TV programme, Newsround, came to school to film a report about the benefits of therapy animals visiting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in schools.

According to a study from the University of Leeds, even watching videos or looking at pictures of cute animals can reduce stress levels by as much as 50%.

Swindon based Sarah Woodland regularly brings her miniature Shetland ponies, known as the Dinky Ponies, into school so the pupils can interact with them by stroking and grooming them and decorating their manes with colourful bows.

The Newsround crew spent several hours filming the children interacting with the ponies around the school and reporter, Nina Blissett, interviewed several of our students.

On Tuesday 23 July the feature aired on the show. If you missed it first time around, or if you would like to watch the report again, please click on the link below.
